Friday evening, July 13th, Quality Social was without a doubt the place to see and be seen as downtown’s Gaslamp Quarter filled with A-listers hot off of Comic Con. Most notably, lead actors from two of the hottest Vampire lineups in show business. The cast of HBO hit-show True Blood was in attendance, rounded out by celebrity heartthrob Joe Manganiello (who also portrayed a professional stripper in this summer’s Magic Mike). The star took a good 10 minutes taking photos and signing autographs for fans with a line approximately 20 people deep. Joining Manganiello was none other than Ashley Green who portrays Alice Cullen in the mega-series Twilight. Ashley was drinking the “Man of Steel” Quality Socia’s cheeky Comic-Con inspired cocktail.
Also joining them was Anna Kendrick (star of Twilight and Academy Award nominee for her role in Up in the Air alongside George Clooney) as well as Kristen Bauer von Straten from True Blood. The group ordered appetizers to share like the Grilled Flatbread and Fish tacos, as well as spirits such as Johnny Walker Black and Macallan whisky.
Sitting caddy corner to the stars, was the cast of NBC’s hit show, Community, who popped in to the casual bar and eatery for a meal and libations. The show’s lead actor, Joel McHale was most recognizable towering over others at 6’4″ as he met with fans and shook hands. Dressed down in jeans, a button down and sweater, McHale was in tow along with co-stars Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown and Allison Brie as well as Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) and Dave Franco (brother of James Franco and star of Scrubs) . The collective ordered abundantly from Quality Social’s award-winning menu with dishes such as the Deviled Eggs, Duck Wings and Bacon Wrapped Dates. The group also ordered two bottles of J Lasalle Brute rosé and a couple rounds of dessert. McHale was sure to note to staff that Executive Chef Jared Van Camp’s Bread Pudding was “the best he has ever had” and the food was “heart stopping-ly good”, mentioning that they would be sure to stop in before they leave town. The group closed the restaurant, sipping drinks, laughing and dancing in the corner booth.
Rounding out the evening was American film critic and E! Televesion correspondent, Ben Lyons, who stopped in for a drink at the bar around 9:30pm.
